Biography

Marius Pibarot is a Franco-American musician – a multi-instrumentalist, composer and arranger working between Paris and New York and wherever his concerts take him. He plays the violin, guitar and double bass and sings his own compositions, sometimes working solo, using effect pedals and a loop station, sometimes accompanied by other jazz musicians. He has traveled widely since his youth to learn the music and cultures of many different countries and namely those of Venezuela, India, Armenia, Turkey and of course the US, all of which enrich his creations.

His work as a composer includes the music scores for several shorts and for feature films, including two documentaries, Petits Arrangements avec l’Amour, directed by Ilana Navaro and broadcast on French national television and Venezuela, L’Ombre de Chavez, directed by Laurence Debray and broadcast on Arte, the European Culture television channel.

In 2018, Marius co-created The Glissandos, a duo with Duncan Wickel, one of the music greats on the New York folk/jazz scene. With two violins, one cello, two voices and texts either in French or English or in both, The Glissandos is a project that combines the compositions of boths musicians.
The Collectif Medz Bazar has been an integral part of Marius’s life since 2012. This group, composed of Armenians and Turks from multiple backgrounds, brings the urban diaspora culture to life based on Middle Eastern music. The Collectif gives concerts around the world: in Russia, Armenia, Georgia, Iraq, Europe, USA, Canada, etc.
Marius plays the double bass with the Venezuelan ensemble Avila Quartet, and also plays with other Venezuelan music groups, and namely with Cristobal Soto and Emmanuelle Saby, actively participating in the Parisian and European Venezuelan music scene.
